Gerald E. Bisbee, Jr., Ph.D., has been a member of Cerner Corporation’s Board of Directors since February 1988.
He is co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of The Health Management Academy. This knowledge-based organization provides information and research to executives of the largest multi-hospital systems and corporations.
Services include executive forums of senior executives, which identify and develop best practices; comparative research and benchmarking studies; fellowship programs for high potential health system executives; a learning laboratory; and policy analysis and development. All services are focused on increasing the quality, appropriateness and efficiency of health care.
Bisbee was previously chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of ReGen Biologics, Inc., from 1998 to 2011; chairman of the board of Aros Corporation (formerly APACHE Medical Systems, Inc.) beginning in December 1999 until 2002 when ReGen and Aros merged; and chairman of the board and chief executive officer of APACHE Medical Systems, Inc. from 1990 to 1998.
Prior to 1989, Bisbee was Director of the Healthcare Group at Kidder, Peabody & Co.; president of the Hospital Research and Educational Trust, the research and development arm of the American Hospital Association; and a faculty member within the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Yale University.
Bisbee earned a Ph.D. in chronic disease epidemiology from Yale University. His dissertation is part of the development of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs). He has an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Bisbee has published journal articles and co-authored books in the area of health finance and co-authored the first national study on the incidence and prevalence of musculoskeletal conditions.
