Paul N. Gorup, chief of innovation and Cerner co-founder, is responsible for driving innovation and change across client organizations to elevate their performance into the top quartile in all categories for high performance hospitals and healthcare systems.
He also works to help clients achieve goals related to meaningful use, and, ultimately, create a showcase of how Cerner systems can help “move the meter” on healthcare quality, safety and efficiency. As such, Gorup is responsible for the implementation of Cerner ITWorks™ at Naples Community Hospital; this furthers Cerner’s partnerships with our clients and emphasizes the importance we place on doing things right.
ITWorks new services include: on-site Cerner IT departments, a Tier 1 help desk and management of non-Cerner Millennium® systems. Existing services include: CernerWorks™, Application Management Services, Upgrade Center, Experience Center and Solutions Center.
As one of Cerner’s co-founders, Gorup played a critical role in the company’s formative years. Among other accomplishments, he served as one of the key members of the development team for PathNet®, the first widely available commercial solution for Cerner. In 1987, Gorup left Cerner to pursue new challenges in the area of electronic broadcast monitoring systems. He founded Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) with two partners and built the company into an industry leader. Today, BDS operates the largest commercial electronic monitoring system in the world, monitoring more than 1,100 radio stations and 600 television stations in the United States and Canada.
Gorup returned to Cerner in 1999 as vice president of Application Data Services. He launched Cerner into the data services business, managing technical and operational infrastructures for clients. The high demand for these data services and significant client benefit opportunities, especially among community hospitals, led Cerner to construct a new state-of-the-art data center at its main campus as well as an off-site data center in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Gorup earned a master’s degree in business administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
