David Sides, senior vice president, Worldwide Consulting, leads Cerner's worldwide consulting organization. Sides is responsible for connecting all elements of Cerner professional services with the operating units of the U.S. and global business units, as well as the strategic solutions centers in Kansas City, London and Bangalore, India.

Sides joined Cerner in 1995 as a consultant, installing electronic medical record systems from start to finish, and in engineering, leading Cerner Millennium® alpha implementations. He served as the enterprise practice leader, and he was directly engaged at high-risk sites during the Y2K issue. Prior to his current position, Sides was the managing director of Cerner’s businesses in the UK and Ireland.

Under his five-year leadership, Cerner won government contracts to provide the national electronic referral system, Choose and Book, and the integrated Care Records System for hospitals and trusts in London and the Southern region of the UK, representing 40 percent of the UK market.

Sides’ passion for his work with Cerner goes back to his family’s longtime service in healthcare.

“I am kind of the black sheep of my family. My grandfather, father and brother are all doctors, and I went the administration route,” Sides said. “Seeing my father work through his charts on Sundays, I knew there had to be a better way.”

Prior to Cerner, Sides was a network analyst at the University of Missouri, an administrative fellow at Victory Health System in Waukegan, Ill., and a financial analyst for IBM.

He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Sides earned a bachelor’s degree in biophysics from the University of California at Berkeley and was a recipient of the Jim Lemmon award for excellence in the sport of rowing. He earned master’s degrees in business administration and health administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Mo., where he received the MBA achievement award.
