  • SEHA saves money, helps patients by creating payment denial alerts

    SEHA Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) is saving thousands of dollars a month by making it easier for providers to avoid payment denials from insurance companies. SEHA added detailed alerts to its Cerner-supported electronic health record, and from July 2015 through June 2016 the health system comprised of 2,723 inpatient beds in 12 hospitals and over 65 outpatient clinics saw proton pump inhibitors (PPI) and other medication denial costs drop by an estimated AED 2,820,000 (equivalent to about $767,000 USD).

    UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention renews relationship with Cerner to provide EHR


    Cerner has worked intensely with MOHAP to implement health IT solutions based on the unified Cerner Millennium® EHR, align IT services with industry best practices and establish an award-winning online patient portal. 

    His Excellency Awad Al Ketbi, assistant undersecretary of the Support Services Sector, MOHAP, shared, “We renewed our agreement with Cerner to create an integrated national platform, enable the smooth exchange of health information, develop a uniform level of care across all Ministry facilities and work toward the improved delivery of health care throughout our state."

    The 11th annual Arabian Computer News Arab Technology Awards is the IT event of the year for the regional technology community and recognizes the outstanding work that has been carried out in the Middle East enterprise market over the past 12 months. With awards for world-class projects and implementations, leading vendor contributions, and outstanding individual efforts, the Arabian Computer News Arab Technology Awards is considered one the most prestigious IT industry awards in the Middle East.

    The awards were presented on October 19 at a gala dinner in Dubai, UAE. More than 300 leading technology professionals attended the ceremony, providing a networking and business development opportunity as well as a platform to honor the industry’s top performers. This year’s Awards featured 15 categories which recognized the successful deployments carried out by end-users from a number of vertical sectors and the leading vendors in a variety of enterprise segments.

    One of this year’s Award categories was the ‘Healthcare Implementation of the Year’. The nominations were for healthcare organizations which met the needs of the growing population in the Middle East using IT solutions to improve reach and delivery of care for patients.

    Out of the five shortlisted healthcare organizations for the ‘Healthcare Implementation of the Year’ Award category, four were Cerner clients. Cerner Middle East prepared a case study and submitted an award nomination for each client based on their submissions for the Cerner Achievement and Innovation Awards 2015 at the Middle East Regional User Group Meeting that took place earlier this year.

    The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Health, was the winner of this category based on their SBAR nursing handover project that has delivered great benefits to patients and healthcare professionals.

    Cerner client in Saudi Arabia receives prestigious HRH Princess Muna Award from ANCC

    The Cerner Sepsis agent was implemented at Al Khor Hospital shortly after the initial Cerner go-live (March 2014), and is now included as standard build across the HMC enterprise. It continuously monitors key clinical indicators and attempts to recognize a potentially septic pattern. As the agent finds potential risks for sepsis, an alert is sent through the Electronic Health Record to notify care givers.

    This spotlight shows that over the last 11 months the sepsis algorithm has had an appreciable impact on the care of patients at Al Khor Hospital.

    Children’s Cancer Hospital Foundation Egypt (CCHE) submitted a nomination for the category of ‘Healthcare Implementation Of The Year’ by Arabian Computer News Arab Technology Awards. At the awards ceremony on October 13, CCHE came in second place. The organization was one of only 3 projects across 15 categories that was “Commended” (an award for a close second place for projects that were noteworthy). The ceremony was attended by Mike Vesser, Senior Director and Chief, Client Organization and Karim Abd Elhay, Client Results Executive from Cerner Middle East, on behalf of CCHE.

    Al Rahba Hospital: ED and Length of Stay Optimization

    Al Rahba is a public hospital located on the highway exit between Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. It has a very busy and highly competent Emergency Department (ED) which serves over 200 visitors per day. One of 12 hospitals owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), the hospital is a 183 bed care facility.

    Al Rahba leveraged data within the Cerner Millennium® System called Malaffi and created a real-time dashboard whereby clinicians could track where bottlenecks were occurring to reduce the wait time.

    Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) is an independent, public joint stock company (PJSC) created to manage and develop the curative activities of the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

    SEHA agreed on an initiative to implement a standard early-warning scoring system (EWS) within its inpatient population of all their healthcare facilities. The ultimate goal of this initiative was to reduce the number of Intensive Care admissions and length of stay and to improve patient outcomes.

    Children Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 transforms care with technology

    Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 (CCHE) is a pediatric cancer hospital in the historic El Sayeda Zeinab district of Cairo, Egypt. CCHE’s mission is to care for children with cancer free of charge regardless of race, creed or financial status. The hospital currently houses 187 inpatient beds; a 300-500 patient capacity outpatient facility; clinical pharmacy; intensive care and bone marrow transplant units; a comprehensive surgery department; and multiple specialty clinics.

    CCHE began its transition from paper-based patient records to electronically-based records in February 2008. The hospital implemented 26 Cerner Millennium® solutions during a ‘big bang’ go-live in November 2009.

    St Stephen's Hospital Hervey Bay - First HIMSS Stage 6 Hospital in Australia

    Description: St Stephen's Hospital Hervey Bay officially became the first hospital in Australia to achieve HIMSS Stage 6 after an onsite inspection by HIMSS Asia Pacific representative, Dr George Margel. This is the first time an onsite inspection for a HIMSS stage 6 evaluation has taken place. St Stephen's Hospital Hervey Bay is the first fully integrated digital hospital in Australia with 29 Cerner solutions and 20 devices being implemented.

    Croydon Health Services NHS Trust Achieves HIMSS Stage 6

    Croydon Health Services NHS Trust has been recognised as a leader in IT practice in healthcare in the UK by the international health information body HIMSS Europe. In a first for the NHS in England, the Trust has been awarded one of the highest grades of award for its use of IT systems to improve patient care that HIMSS Europe can bestow. The award was presented to the Trust at a ceremony in Rome, Italy, on Monday 6 October.

    Two of the most common, yet preventable hospital-acquired conditions are falls and pressure ulcers. Leaders at Mount Sinai Hospital recognized the need to easily identify patients at risk for these conditions so clinicians could quickly intervene. Using PowerChart, nurses can capture real-time patient-specific data that is then sent to a unit-based electronic whiteboard for all clinicians to see. Since implementation, MSH as shown sustained improvement with rates of falls and pressure ulcers.

    Toronto East General Hospital: Reducing Medication Errors through use of an Electronic Medication History

    Toronto East General Hospital uses Cerner's PowerChart® to reduce medication errors. The Hospital achieved a 95 percent accuracy of electronic medication profiles - a significant improvement over the previous workflow where nephrologists used paper prescriptions. Cerner’s software offered the flexibility to be creative with tools that suit the unique needs of the hemodialysis unit (HMD) clinic.

    As a result, the dialysis clinic implemented a seamless process and was able to achieve an accurate and timely transfer of medication information between the clinic, inpatient areas and the community pharmacists.

    The Hospital de Dénia is the first Spanish hospital, and the second one in Europe, to achieve HIMSS (Health Information Management Systems Society) Stage 7, the highest certification on implementing its electronic medical record. The hospital is now completely digital. This positions Hospital de Dénia in the top tier of the select list of hospitals that have received this award by HIMSS; until now, only a German hospital in Europe has been recognized with this highest score.
