    How Cerner handles your personal data

    1. Personal data about patients of health care institutions

    We provide our clients (health care institutions) with software solutions, system support, system trouble-shooting, system implementation, remote hosting, system monitoring and application management services. We may access personal data of patients collected by our clients in certain limited circumstances to enable us to provide these services to our clients. In this capacity, we do not own or control the personal data we access and are merely a data intermediary.

    This personal data may include a patient's name, contact details, age, gender, next of kin details, health insurance status, consultation and treatment details, billing details and other information provided to the health care institution.

    Our services may be provided by us (Cerner Singapore Limited LLC) in Singapore or our related companies situated overseas, including in the United States, Asia, India and Ireland. Where in limited circumstances those related companies may access personal data of patients collected by our clients, such offices located overseas have agreed to implement the same measures in relation to your data as we do here in Singapore.

    Occasionally we engage the services of third party suppliers to assist us in providing our services where those services relate to a third party supplier’s solution. In such cases, the relevant third party supplier may, in the course of providing such services, have access to the personal data of patients collected by our clients.

    2. Personal data of others

    In the course of our operations, we collect personal data about job applicants, contractors (where the contractor is an individual) and other individuals that provide services to us. If you are one of these individuals, the kinds of personal data we collect about you include your name and contact details. If you are a job applicant, we may also collect additional personal data about you, such as your employment history, qualifications, proof of citizenship or working visa, and any information on your CV. We only use and disclose your information for the primary purpose for which it was collected or a related secondary purpose. For example, if you are a job applicant, we use and may disclose your personal data to assess and facilitate your recruitment application.

    We may collect your personal information directly from you (such as when job applicants submit an online employment application) or from your referees, our service providers (including the third party who hosts our recruitment tool) and others when we receive the results of any background or other checks. We may disclose your personal information to our agents, related companies, contractors or third party service providers that provide services in connection with the operation of our business, including our assessment of your job application. These entities may be located overseas, including in the United States, Asia, India and Ireland.

    We may also disclose your personal data in any other way that you consent and as required or authorised by law.

    If you are a job applicant or contractor, we may also disclose your personal data to your referees and individuals nominated by you and in carrying out general checks (as permitted by law) such as in confirming your employment history and qualifications. We may also disclose your personal data to do a check of your credit history and/or criminal record, but only if we have your explicit consent.

    Data security and retention

    We take reasonable steps to protect your personal data from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

    Your information is stored securely whether in an electronic or physical form. For example, only staff needing access to the information to perform their duties are allowed access. Access is controlled by physical controls (such as key cards and camera surveillance) and logical controls (such as passwords and other intrusion prevention systems).

    We also utilise other measures to ensure the security of your personal data, including regular testing of our security systems and (where possible and appropriate) the use of data encryption, generic samples instead of actual data when testing our clients' systems and secure networks. Precautions are also taken to protect your personal information in physical form from environmental threats such as fire and flood.

    All Cerner entities worldwide are required to protect personal data in this way.

    For legal reasons, some information is kept for a number of years. If you are a job applicant we may keep your personal data for up to 12 months, or longer in some cases, to consider your suitability for future positions, unless you advise that you wish it to be destroyed.

    Access and correction

    As an individual, you have a right to seek access to, and correction of, your personal data.

    If you are a patient and require access to any of the information held about you, we recommend that you ask your relevant health care institution for access to your personal data, as they hold a more complete collection of your personal data and are better positioned to answer any queries you have in relation to your personal data.

    Otherwise, you can request access at any time to personal data we hold about you by contacting our Data Protection Officer as set out below. We will process your request within a reasonable time and may charge you our reasonable costs of processing your request (but not for the making of the request).

    You may ask us at any time to correct personal data held by us about you, which you believe is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. To make such a request, please contact our Data Protection Officer on the details below.

    If you wish to complain about our handling of your personal data, please contact our Data Protection Officer on the details below. We will investigate and attempt to resolve your complaint within a reasonable time of receiving it.
