First Hand was created in 1995 by Cerner associates who still make up the largest portion of the Foundation’s funding. Cerner is committed to increasing its associate’s impact through the Foundation by matching associates contributions. Cerner’s match covers all administrative costs of the Foundation, such as overhead, salaries and office supplies. This allows 100 percent of associate’s dollars to directly impact the health status of young lives.
However, Cerner and its associates can’t do it alone. The Foundation looks to individual supporters to work hand-in-hand to help change the lives of children. For example, healthcare professionals can secure discounts from hospitals, equipment suppliers and other care providers to help First Hand make the most impact.
Additional funds are raised through memorial and honorarium programs, corporate matching, gifts of stock and annual fundraising events.
