Cerner Partners With Equinix to Offer Remote Hosting Option to NHS Trusts
Secure hosting service reduces cost of IT implementations while improving system availability and performance

LONDON — October 18, 2010 — Cerner Corporation today announced an agreement with Equinix Inc., a provider of global data centre services, to utilise Equinix’s London 5 (LD5) International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centre to offer a Remote Hosting Option (RHO) for its healthcare solutions. The RHO service will include secure hosting, hardware and connectivity, and will be immediately available to NHS Trusts and private organisations in the UK. This service allows healthcare providers to take advantage of Cerner’s administrative, clinical and patient care solutions, and coupled with Equinix’s data centre services, allows NHS trusts and other organisations to cost-effectively build, maintain and secure an HIT infrastructure, without the usual upfront capital and resource investment needed.

Benefits of remote hosting Cerner solutions at Equinix’s facility include:

• Improved operational efficiency through increased system availability and performance;
• Reduced time and cost spent hosting and implementing IT systems, allowing Trusts to focus on providing quality care;
• Lowered technical and performance risks and improved system predictability with built in protection and disaster recovery.

Key to Cerner’s decision to host its RHO service in LD5, was Equinix’s comprehensive and resilient facilities, which offer world class availability, reliability and security of critical patient data. Equinix’s global network of purpose-built data centres will also offer improved scalability and flexibility for Cerner’s customers.

“We understand the importance of safeguarding our customers’ most important information, such as confidential patient data,” said Russell Poole, General Manager, Equinix UK. “It is critical that Cerner’s solutions are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week – even more so when the health of patients is at stake. With that in mind, we are confident in our ability to provide a secure environment with maximum system uptime for healthcare providers, without the cost and management headaches typically associated with a fully-resourced HIT infrastructure.”

Alan Fowles, Cerner’s Vice President and General Manager of the UK and Ireland, added: “Cerner’s remote hosting option will benefit our UK clients by enabling them to focus on what they do best- delivering high quality care. With RHO, Cerner takes the accountability for hosting our solutions and managing risk, ensuring our clients achieve operational efficiency without having to worry about system security, uptime or availability.”
