Lord Howe Opens Cerner’s Collaboration Centre
Health Minister Welcomes Investment in Healthcare Information Technology

LONDON - Monday 06 December 2010 — Lord Howe, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Quality at the Department of Health, officially opened Cerner’s Collaboration Centre at Cerner’s office in London today. The Centre houses the most up-to-date healthcare technology solutions and medical devices which continually push the boundaries of research and development in order to expand the capabilities of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). In the run-up to the opening, the Centre has already hosted nearly 4,000 visitors participating in almost 500 events from more than 100 different organisations.

Speaking after the opening, Lord Howe said:

“The NHS White Paper set out the Government's long-term vision for a patient centred NHS that achieves health outcomes among the best in the world. The information revolution is part of our commitment to put patients first by giving people more information and control and greater choice about their care. We’re embarking upon a transformation in the way that information is accessed, collected, analysed and used so that people are at the heart of health and adult social care services. I’m delighted to open this world-class facility which recognises the importance of good information to healthcare.”

Alan Fowles, Cerner’s Vice President and General Manager of the UK and Ireland, added:

“We are delighted that Lord Howe has opened our Collaboration Centre. It was fantastic to be able to show the Minister how the Centre makes the most of our innovative technology which enables our clients and partners to visualise the possibilities and opportunities when using our healthcare solutions. The Collaboration Centre is a critical component in helping our clients to identify their respective organisational imperatives, such as financial savings or patient safety initiatives, and align them with the capabilities of Cerner Millennium®.”
