Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust Appoints Cerner
09 April 2013
London — 08.04.13 — Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust has appointed Cerner to supply its electronic patient record system. The move will see Cerner’s Millennium system deployed across Lewisham’s hospital and community health services in south east London.
The clinical transformation project puts Millennium at the heart of Lewisham’s drive to improve patient care. A range of clinical solutions will be deployed alongside the patient administration system, such as Care Documentation which releases nursing time to care by streamlining administration and eliminating duplication. Best practice Action Sets will support clinical decision making and ePrescribing will strengthen patient safety.
Cerner will work with the Trust to develop a tailored solution integrating acute and community records, including those for community child health. The work will enhance the integration of care services across south east London.
The appointment marks a significant extension of Cerner’s UK footprint as the NHS plans for the end of the National Programme for IT in 2015 and seeks to meet Government targets to become paperless by 2018.
Commenting on the announcement, Emil Peters, Vice President and Managing Director, Cerner Limited said:
“We are delighted that Lewisham has chosen to put Cerner at the heart of their plans to transform care in south east London. As the NHS seeks to become paperless by 2018, selecting the right electronic patient record is one of the biggest single decisions a trust will face. Millennium will help improve the quality, safety and affordability of care in Lewisham, and we look forward to working with the trust to make that vision a reality for staff and patients.”
Miss Jane Linsell, Medical Director for Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust, added:
“This announcement is a major step forward in our plans to use information and technology to improve care for patients. It will relieve administrative burdens on staff and support quicker, more informed clinical decisions. Our patients deserve the best care available and this announcement ensures they continue to benefit from world-leading technology. It is good news for staff and patients alike.”
