Cerner Recognized as Industry Leader in CPOE for Third Consecutive Year
March 22, 2007
Distinguishing Cerner Corp. (NASDAQ: CERN) as a leader in healthcare information technology (HIT) solutions, KLAS announced that for the third year in a row the company’s computerized physician order entry system (CPOE) solutions offer the highest value proposition for providers. The report also stated that Cerner’s CPOE solution, based on its unified Cerner Millennium® architecture, had the highest scores in system reliability and uptime.
“For the past three years, Cerner has been rated highest in CPOE value proposition with its Cerner Millennium solution for patient care,” said Kent Gale, president of KLAS. “Cerner continues to enjoy deep physician adoption as evidenced by its high scores in physician satisfaction.”
KLAS focuses on four primary areas for evaluating healthcare IT companies’ CPOE value proposition: physician buy-in, depth of use, solution types, and patient safety, alerts and reminders. Cerner received high marks for inpatient physician satisfaction, with physicians citing economic and efficiency benefits. Using external clinician input and evaluation as well as the expertise of more than 40 employed physicians, Cerner developed its CPOE solution to mirror the way physicians practice medicine.
“Cerner’s broad community of clients, combined with its quarter century of experience in the HIT industry, brings together a wealth of knowledge to innovate and continually improve the end-user experience,” said Trace Devanny, president of Cerner. “Cerner’s strong performance in this report speaks to the impact a solution can have when clinical workflow is at the forefront of the development effort.”
The KLAS Digest also reported that Cerner has the most active hospitals where more than 50 percent of physicians use CPOE and the highest number of hospitals where more than 50 percent of orders are entered electronically by physicians.
In its fifth annual CPOE Digest report published on Friday, KLAS outlined its impartial synopsis of the CPOE field, focusing on usage of CPOE in live inpatient and major ambulatory facilities in North America. Cerner was among 12 competitors evaluated by providers on various aspects of their CPOE system, such as integration with pharmacy, benefits and value proposition.
