Gerald E. Bisbee, Jr., Ph.D. has been a member of Cerner’s Board of Directors since February 1988.
He is co-founder and executive chairman of The Health Management Academy, a network of executives from the nation’s largest integrated health systems and the industry’s most innovative companies striving to shape the future of health care. The academy facilitates the exchange of best practices and benchmarking data, focused on increasing the quality, appropriateness and efficiency of care. Before assuming the role of Executive Chairman in September 2018, Bisbee served as chairman and chief executive officer of the academy for more than five years.
Bisbee was president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of directors of ReGen Biologics, Inc. (“ReGen”) from 1998 to September 2011. Bisbee was president, chief executive officer and a director of Aros Corporation (formerly known as APACHE Medical Systems, Inc.) commencing in December 1989, serving as chairman of the board of directors from December 1989 to November 1997 and from December 2000 to June 2002, when ReGen and Aros Corporation merged.
Before 1989, Bisbee was director of the Healthcare Group at Kidder, Peabody & Co.; president of the Hospital Research and Educational Trust (the research and development arm of the American Hospital Association); and a faculty member in graduate management programs at Yale University and Northwestern University.
Bisbee earned a Ph.D. in chronic disease epidemiology from Yale University. His dissertation is part of the development of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs). He has an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Bisbee has published journal articles and co-authored books in the area of health finance. He has also co-authored the first national study on the incidence and prevalence of musculoskeletal conditions.
