In this age of digital excellence, the science of health care informatics is undergoing great transformations in order to deliver more meaningful insights for stakeholders.

The visual display of data can be a very powerful medium for communicating findings in a constructive and interactive way. It is an important policy tool that showcases smart summaries of all significant variables to better inform the future decisions of organizations.

As business intelligence tools progressed over time, the concept of health analytics dashboards emerged. These dashboards are information management tools capable of tracking, analyzing and displaying key metrics and performance indicators for an organization.

Cerner continues to support our clients with smart, interactive dashboards tailored to their requirements by utilizing our business intelligence tools and capabilities.

Specialized dashboards for COVID-19

Governments all over the world are planning and implementing their management and mitigation strategies as the magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic grows. This is a dynamic process that evolves with each piece of information added to the data banks. Data serves as the main currency and is the primary asset of all strategists in designing their dynamic plans. The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has a patient-focused approach whereby it aspires to achieve a world-class health care system. MOHAP’s response to COVID-19 is aligned with this vision.

Cerner has developed smart operational and clinical dashboards powered by SAS VIYA for use by MOHAP decision-makers. These dashboards are designed to enable officials and citizens to visualize, analyze, and share the latest data on COVID-19, putting them in the best possible position to make decisions and take action to slow the spread of the disease.

Strategizing dashboard implementation

Successful implementation of dashboards is vital for ensuring their use at the forefront of the data-driven decision-making process. This requires sound technical and institutional strategies to be defined from the outset. Cerner deployed both strategies with MOHAP to facilitate a smooth and successful process. Strong leadership, vision and data governance are institutional factors that contributed to this process. Leadership establishes a culture that values the use of data to set priorities and allocate resources, while governance models ensure that roles and responsibilities are clear among various stakeholders, and the health of the data is monitored through simultaneous application of top-down and bottom-up approaches.

With the engagement of MOHAP leadership, Cerner committed to deliver operational and clinical dashboards to support the caregiving process for the population of the UAE. There are a total of eight dashboards that focus on system utilization and resource availability for better management and planning of the integrated COVID-19 response by MOHAP. Our dashboards are available to all care-providing departments at MOHAP, ranging from preventative medicine to tertiary care. These smart dashboards are interactive for ease of use and can be customized to individual client requirements. They are updated every four hours so that the managers can proactively plan their responses.

These dashboards include:

  • COVID-19 global dashboard
  • Bed management dashboard
  • PUI dashboard
  • Home quarantine dashboard
  • COVID-19 private facilities webform
  • COVID-19 private facilities webform raw data
  • Lab (COVID-PCR) dashboard
  • MOHAP (COVID-PCR) dashboard
  • COVID-19 statistics dashboard

Dashboard-driven analytics

In addition to visualizing data, Cerner’ s dashboards helped MOHAP to track COVID-19 case reports, identify presumptive cases earlier, track test results, evaluate whether labs are operating within capacity, identify at-risk patients and communities, and ensure that those individuals who test positive for COVID-19 gain access treatment.

To know the current situation and to get the updated information around the globe, Cerner has developed a dashboard that provides current numbers of cases (confirmed, recovered and deaths), and comprehensive data broken down by geographical region.

Conclusion

We continue to support MOHAP with our smart and interactive dashboards that are tailored to their requirements. These dashboards serve as sources of process enhancement and improved clinical outcomes for them.
