Health care informatics solutions

The digital maturity level of health care organizations has significantly increased over the last ten years. Clinical practice across venues of care is ever-more reliant on enabling IT solutions and applications. As a result, clinical workflows have evolved and brought new IT challenges for health care organizations to deal with. Today’s heterogeneous or best of breed environments within health care IT mean it’s often difficult for organizations to ensure standardization of end users’ methods of accessing various software platforms. Our decades of experience recommend a three-stage approach: discovery, transformation and adoption.

Infrastructure Management Services (IMS)

Cerner’s IMS offering provides remote system management and monitoring for underlying IT infrastructure for client-hosted Millennium® and other ancillary solution systems. The infrastructure monitoring and management services are offered for compute, storage and backup technologies. The service emphasizes proactive infrastructure monitoring and management for reliable and optimized Millennium performance and stability. This service utilizes Cerner’s worldwide experience and skill set for data center operations and management. This service leverages the same system management and monitoring toolset and skilled technical resources that Cerner’s Remote Hosting Option (RHO) service utilizes. The IMS services compliments OMS and maximizes the benefits of Cerner managed service offerings for client hosted systems.

Cerner’s AMS teams work in delivering world-class support, ensuring that your workflows are efficient, and your system’s code is kept up to date. We give you a proactive and personalized support experience to help you achieve your goals through continuous advancement across the care continuum. Our scale and experience provide a unique advantage by allowing you to better leverage your IT investment.

Cerner’s OMS offering provides remote system management and monitoring for client-hosted Millennium and other ancillary solution systems. The service emphasizes proactive systems monitoring and management, resulting in improved reliability and availability for Cerner applications. Monitoring offers 24x7 monitoring via Olympus, BMC Patrol (third-party tool), and other industry standard tools. This service leverages the same system management and monitoring toolset and skilled technical resources that Cerner’s RHO service utilizes. The OMS service is often a first step that clients take to experience the benefits of Cerner’s managed services. Many OMS service clients continue their relationship by extending the alignment to full RHO services.

This managed service offering model is available to all Cerner clients within the US and other specific geographic locations around the world. Cerner has been in the remote hosting business for over 35 years. Over 90% of Cerner’s new clients are electing the RHO approach for their EHR. Cerner’s hosting services are now providing some level of solution functionality for over 50% of USA’s hospital beds. With this model, Cerner would remotely house, administer, and manage the Cerner suite for EHR solutions. RHO provides the technology infrastructure, OS and required layered software (i.e. OS, database, Citrix, etc.), installation of software and resources to support remotely hosted solutions. Clients access solutions and data by communicating with the hosting facility via a secure, highly available wide-area network using dedicated telecommunication circuits or a secured VPN leveraging the internet. Cerner assumes responsibility for the performance, availability, and security of the system, all backed by service level guarantees for system availability.

RHO provides superior performance, security, reliability, and scalability with a lower up-front financial commitment from the client by combining hardware, networking technologies, and technical expertise. It allows health care organizations to leverage the most sophisticated and powerful IT solutions available today. RHO can provide significant cost-savings and competitive advantages. It helps avoid depreciation and obsolescence of hardware and frees the client’s IT department to focus on their core business of providing quality health care.

Cerner offers a total package of award-winning remote hosting services tailored to the demanding needs of health care organizations. In addition to hosting Cerner solutions, Cerner hosts more than 100 business solutions including Infor Lawson HR & Financials, Oracle PeopleSoft HR & Financials, 3M 360, CBORD, Dentrix, and McKesson Financials & Materials Management in our world-class technology centers, and manages more than 35 solutions at client sites. Cerner’s eHosting provides secure hosting management services, hardware, connectivity and the expertise to help you achieve superior performance, increased security, reliability and scalability for your health care organization. Many clients have already extended their hosting engagement beyond the Millennium EHR suite of solutions and have realized the benefit of eHosting services. Using eHosting services, client technical resources on site can be leveraged to focus on core business initiatives related to providing high quality health care services and supporting end users.

The MTO service is a managed service offering available in some global markets to provide an increased level of technology service where Cerner does not offer full hosting services. The MTO offering includes many of the advantages that Cerner’s RHO service provides, leveraging the same RHO system management, monitoring toolset and technology resources. With the MTO offering, clients provide and control the necessary data center facility and any onsite resources needed for physical system installation and any ongoing hands-on server management. Cerner provides and owns the Millennium system hardware and will be responsible for the infrastructure level management (services delivered remotely). Clients are responsible to provide end user desktops and other peripherals needed to support Millennium solutions.

For hosting services outside of the Unites States, Cerner has partnered with technology centers throughout the world to serve clients while ensuring compliance with local privacy laws. Cerner owns and manages hardware and networking services in the following locations: Isle D’Abeau, France in partnership with Hewlett-Packard; Paris, France partnering with Equinix; Brisbane, Australia partnering with iSeek; Slough, London, UK with Equinix; Ontario, Canada with Q9 and SunGard; and Stockholm, Sweden with Equinix.
