Instead, I became a nurse. This is the sort of illogical logic that has governed my life. 2 November 1980: Bags packed and ready to leave home, my mother handed me a gift - a leather-bound bible. The fly sheet is inscribed in her beautiful flowing script, with several verses from a Longfellow poem which poignantly starts:

by Jane Wilson | Kevin Fitzgerald 21 November 2018 The road to workflow optimisation is never easy, but there are a few best practices that can help smooth the way, and at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, we are always working to improve our practice. In 2017, we undertook a large-scale effort to optimise our clinical workflows. As anyone who has implemented an electronic health system knows, even after the final deadline is met, the process is not over. There are always new functionalities to install, data to leverage and opportunities to improve. Our aim with this project was to make sure the system was providing value for all our end users and that we were truly serving the needs of our patients.
by Inderjit Singh 14 November 2018 The need for effective sharing of health and care information to support new and emerging models of care is a clear priority for the National Health Service (NHS), as more organisations in our industry are moving toward integrated care and realising the need to manage total cost and quality of care for local populations.
by Oracle Cerner UK 12 November 2018 Open standards have been developed to simplify integration within health and social care, making it easier to write complementary applications to enhance the functionality of the electronic health record (EHR). Access to these applications allows for more empowered clinicians and engaged citizens, unlocking the potential for important improvements in patient experience and outcomes. To this end, the use of common standards and open application programming interfaces (APIs) is expected to become more regular across NHS providers, as expressed in Matt Hancock’s technology strategy, ‘The Future of Healthcare’.
by Sean Ridley 7 November 2018 Connecting information with a Health Information Exchange (HIE) has benefits that resonate across the continuum of care.
