Quality health and care is best delivered when the entire care team is informed, connected and accountable. Patient risk exists when moving between services and venues, and when care teams are under-informed.
Cerner’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) is a standards-based, scalable, vendor-agnostic point-of-care solution built upon the reliable and proven Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise technology infrastructure.
There is little argument that connecting information can improve care quality, help reduce costs and improve the patient experience. Our HIE is designed to enable safe decision making and enhance continuity of care. Leading market research organisation Black Book ranked Cerner’s HIE number one top performing open network HIE for four straight years, based on user reviews.
In the UK, our HIE is currently connecting 16 hospitals, 980+ GP practices, 35 community services, eight mental health providers, four social care services, connecting records for 6.9million patients, including 1.5 million in East London alone.
"Community View [HIE] has radically changed the way I practice and revolutionised how my colleagues work"
- Dr Osman Bhatti, GP Principal and CCG Lead for Informatics and Caldicott Guardian, Tower Hamlets CCG
Our powerful HIE enables a complex network of organisations from across the health and care system. Our relationship with the East London Health & Care Partnership (ELHCP), helping to deliver the East London Patient Record (eLPR) to 1.5 million residents, is showing significant benefits.
Cerner HIE connects multiple stakeholders, EHRs and other patient systems across different settings and services, including the region’s primary care, acute, community and mental health, and social services. This provides a consolidated view of patients’ longitudinal records, and by using real-time connectivity, provides users with up-to-date and relevant clinical information.
ELHCP recently released a rigorous, independent study and found a number of significant benefits to their partnership with Cerner, and our HIE technology:
Investment is needed to drive quality improvements in healthcare, however measurable returns must be realised. eLPR has done this on scale, in a complex environment: it costs 57p per patient, per year to run, with the easily quantifiable savings outlined above coming to 121p per patient, per year – a 112 percent return.
Choosing a trusted and proven HIE works – it works for your patients, your clinical staff and your organisation as a whole. By breaking down information silos, you are able to build up something much more beneficial for all parties.
