In an effort to provide more efficient, effective care, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (Imperial) implemented near real-time capturing of patient observations/vital signs directly into their electronic patient record, releasing an estimated 5,800+ nursing hours to patient care over a 15-month period.
Cerner’s Rapid Response dashboard now allows nurses at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to work proactively when they’re dealing with people in critical care, reducing lengths of stays and improving the patient experience.
“We’ve got the Discern alerts that run in the background; we’re intercepting patients with sepsis and AKI and things... We tend to pick that up an awful lot quicker. So, in terms of patient outcomes, we’ve noticed a big change there as well.”
— Makeba Nash, chief nursing information officer, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust
Sepsis is one of the biggest killers in Ireland, yet when caught early, can be treated effectively. The difficulty is spotting a complex condition – but technology is here to help.
Thanks to Cerner solutions, nurses saved 3,800 hours over a period of 11 months at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
“The patients are getting seen quicker, and those patients that are getting our help that we wouldn’t have even known about before.”
— Lucie Sulman, critical care outreach nurse, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
