As a leading global health care technology company, Cerner has an important responsibility—to help protect the health and safety of associates, our clients around the globe and their patients, and the well-being of our communities.

For the past several weeks, Cerner’s COVID-19 Taskforce, dedicated to making clinical and business continuity decisions globally, has been working around the clock to help support a healthy, safe workplace for associates and clients. Additionally, Cerner’s Infection Control team routinely and proactively works with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and government sites worldwide to understand and monitor the threat of disease outbreaks.

Cerner COVID-19 Taskforce Recommendations

At the recommendation of the COVID-19 Taskforce, associates worldwide have been educated on best practices to prevent transmission, and Cerner is continually monitoring the WHO, CDC and government recommendations worldwide.

Work from Home Policy To help reduce the potential exposure and transmission of COVID-19 in our communities globally, all associates who are able to work remotely are asked to work from home beginning Monday, March 16, 2020 until Monday, March 30, 2020. The Cerner COVID-19 Taskforce will reassess the weeks following and could extend based on the situation. Some offices will remain open for associates whose work requires being physically present, and Cerner is implementing social distancing strategies to help reduce the risk of exposure. Protecting our associates' health and continuing to meet our client commitments are our top priorities.

Pandemic Time Off – In order to protect the financial health of associates who are unable to perform their work because of the pandemic due to a quarantine, department or office closure, Cerner has instituted an emergency Pandemic Time Off policy.

Travel – Cerner has temporarily halted all international and non-critical travel. For travel within a designated country, Cerner continues to follow guidance from the WHO, CDC and other global and regional health organizations and has limited Cerner travel to critical travel only, as well as prohibiting travel to level 2 and level 3 locations, as defined by the CDC and the WHO.

Additionally, associates who have returned – or been in close contact with someone who has – from a level 2 or 3 location, or from a cruise, are required to work from home for two weeks. Associates at higher risk for infection, or who have close contact with someone at higher risk, are not permitted to travel for work and should continue working from home.

We understand that as a health care technology company our work to support health systems across the globe must continue. We’re working continuously to evaluate the best decisions for our associates and clients and making decisions accordingly.

Our Clients We understand that many of our clients are at the forefront of this global pandemic and are being pushed to unprecedented limits. Cerner will continue to provide support and service to clients during this time.

Cerner’s electronic health record technology is helping health systems effectively screen and monitor their patient populations for potential cases of viruses. Cerner developed and pushed a COVID-19 update to Cerner Millennium® clients to help them actively manage the ongoing threat of the virus in their communities. For Cerner Soarian® clients, strong communicable disease screening is already in place. With telehealth, Cerner is helping to improve access to health care from the home to help mitigate the impact and spread of the virus. Cerner is committed to continually advancing solutions to provide clients with the tools they need to better deter and detect disease and treat patients. Regular updates are being provided to health systems.

Cerner has developed a site dedicated to clients on the company’s response to COVID-19, HERE.

Business Continuity – Cerner has business continuity plans in place and the Shared Services Engineering team is leading the effort. Cerner has had the capability for associates to work remotely in many business capacities for many years. Cerner is equipped with the bandwidth needed and security of the remote access solutions that are used to provide support to clients as these solutions are used on a continual basis to provide support.

Cerner believes in a seamless and connected world where everyone thrives. Our leadership remains committed to guiding Cerner and our stakeholders through this global threat.
