Supporting Comprehensive Oncology Care across the continuum.
Cerner puts the patient at the center of the oncology care process. Working with industry experts and clinicians to provide a solution that works for them, with the goal of improving patient outcomes.
We're celebrating Women's History Month with a month-long "Women in HIT" blog series. Every week, we'll be highlighting some leading female voices in the HIT industry – both at Cerner and beyond. These experts will be taking on hot-button issues and industry trends to advance the conversation around health care. Earlier this month, Cerner's Meg Marshall tackled the economics behind America's complicated path to health care reform, while Cerner's Brenna Quinn discussed how to manage change in a health care organization.
“Using PowerChart Oncology[’s]™ integrated EHR allows us to provide excellent patient care by having one place to see all of the patient’s information. It’s safer for the patient and easier on the health care team.”
— Angela Venturella,RN, Sr. Clinical Informatics Analyst, East Jefferson General Hospital
The London (Ontario) Regional Cancer Program (LRCP) implemented Cerner’s PowerChart Oncology (PCO) solution last year. This connected the cancer program to the main Electronic Health Record (EHR) of the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). Before implementing PCO, the cancer program treated about 400 patients every day. It was on a standalone platform that could not share any patient’s data with other parts of the center. Now that the LRCP is connected to the main EHR, adult and pediatric cancer care is now integrated into the existing Millennium® footprint in the LHSC’s 11 hospitals. Now, any treating clinician can have secure access to a patient’s data in the cancer program using Cerner’s PCO, providing a comprehensive health record for all of those patients.

We understand that cancer care is unique and complex. That is why we worked with clinical and industry experts to create a fully integrated oncology-specific electronic health record (EHR). Cerner’s PowerChart Oncology™ is specifically designed to address the complexities of cancer care by supporting the workflow of the oncology team. We put the patient at the center of the continuum of cancer care, providing access to an EHR that works in both the ambulatory and acute care settings.
