Mike Nill

  • Michael R. Nill, executive vice president and chief operating officer, is responsible for Cerner’s core worldwide business operations including Intellectual Property development and all sales, consulting, technology and solution direction. He leads Cerner’s Client Organization in the Americas and Pacific Rim, Worldwide Consulting Services and the DeviceWorks organization.

Nill began his Cerner career in 1996, rolling out Cerner Millennium® solutions and building capabilities to help Cerner clients effectively implement and manage their technology infrastructures. Over the past decade, he has helped create a closed feedback loop by positioning IP development and Cerner’s remote hosting business, CernerWorks™, into a single structure.

An expert in remote hosting and data management, Nill guided the CernerWorks remote hosting offering from its infancy into a world class suite of managed services that now generate $300 million of annual revenue. He also created the Cerner ITWorks™ offering, which further aligns us with our clients, extending the value we bring by significantly improving quality and lowering costs.

In addition, Nill’s leadership of IP development and management of our $280 million annual research and development investment have resulted in our solutions having the highest code quality in Cerner history.

“I have a passion for delivering technology solutions for the health care marketplace and possess extensive experience spanning the full application development, implementation and operations life cycle. My teams assess our clients’ needs, build the software, install the systems, manage the production environment and provide client support. This combined experience and integration across organizations has been the key to the success of each of my business units including CernerWorks,” Nill said. “The CernerWorks business has achieved tremendous growth, and our exceptional service has been recognized by KLAS and our clients. Our success with CernerWorks is a visible example of how my organizations work together to deliver value for our clients. I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished.”

Nill contributes to a variety of industry events including Oracle OpenWorld 2010, where he spoke about harnessing the data footprint in health care.

Prior to joining Cerner, Nill spent 10 years as a technology consultant and architect with Andersen Consulting. He received a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo.
