    Randy Sims, senior vice president, chief legal officer and secretary, is responsible for all legal affairs at Cerner, including general corporate, Securities and Exchange Commission compliance, transactions and litigation. Sims also oversees client and non-client contracting, human resources support and intellectual property, including patents and trademarks. Sims’ responsibility for legal affairs includes all of Cerner’s global subsidiaries, including operations in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia Pacific.

    Sims joined Cerner in March 1997 after three years at Farmland Industries Inc., where he last served as associate general counsel. At Farmland, then a Fortune 200 agribusiness conglomerate, Sims was responsible for the legal staffing and management of all company transactions, including financing, acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, and alliances.

    Prior to his service at Farmland, Sims provided general legal representation to the Marley Co., including services related to acquisitions and divestitures, real estate, product liability, antitrust and litigation management. Marley was a diversified manufacturer of industrial and residential products and provider of professional services to the water supply and environmental markets. Sims joined Marley as an attorney in 1986, and he left as assistant general counsel in 1993. Sims began his legal career as an associate at the Kansas City-based law firm of Morrison & Hecker, now known as Stinson Morrison Hecker.

    Sims earned a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University, a juris doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law, and an executive fellows master’s degree in business administration from Rockhurst College. He serves on the board of directors of Alpha Lambda Educational Foundation, First Hand Foundation and Starlight Theatre, and on the Dean’s Business Advisory Council of the College of Business Administration at Kansas State University. He was a member of the advisory board for the Department of Management at Kansas State University from 2001 through 2007, and The Roasterie, Inc., from 1997 through 1999. Sims is a member of various local and national bar and professional associations.
