  • Meet Garrett, Cerner technical apprentice

Garrett began working at Cerner in 2009 while attending Kansas City’s Metropolitan Community College. He joined CernerWorks eHosting, the team that remote hosts, supports and maintains our clients’ Cerner Millennium® systems.

His schedule may be full, but Garrett feels confident he is gaining a competitive advantage. He attributes this to the hands-on experience he gains at Cerner combined with the skills and technologies he learns about in the classroom.

The best part? He’s already accepted a full-time job with Cerner when he graduates.

  • Cerner Apprentice Program Overview

Cerner apprentices must be enrolled in a relevant degree program at a Kansas City area community college or university. Alongside your coursework, you’ll work at Cerner for 20 hours during the school year and 40 hours over summer break.

When hired into a Cerner apprenticeship, your placement is based on business need as well as your education and career aspirations. The majority of apprenticeships are technical-focused, but there are also opportunities for students pursuing business-related degrees.

Current Cerner Apprentices attend local colleges, including University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), Rockhurst, Metropolitan Community College, DeVry, Kansas City Kansas Community College, Johnson County Community College and many others. You can learn more about a Cerner apprenticeship in your school’s career center.
