About Us :: Who is Project IMPACT CCM, Inc.?
In the early 1990's, the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) recognized the need for ICUs to consistently measure patient care and outcomes, and to compare the results with their peers. Project IMPACT® was born.
The original Project IMPACT comprehensive dataset was developed by more than 100 SCCM members. Since its introduction in 1996, Project IMPACT has undergone continual review and improvement and represents the gold standard for comprehensive ICU improvement systems. Project IMPACT continues to be widely used and its substantial and high-quality database has supported many critical care publications.
In order to permit all ICUs (including those with limited or no data-collection resources) to begin to measure and compare results with peers, PICCM has developed the IMPACT series of ICU improvement modules in which a highly focused dataset is collected by existing ICU personnel. This modular approach greatly reduces the data collection effort yet still provides an invaluable measurement and reporting capability. ICUs begin by collecting essential data using IMPACTessential and can "plug-in" additional clinically focused modules to address areas of particular concern. Our first clinically focused module is IMPACTsepsis. Additional modules are planned for ventilator care and to meet future JCAHO requirements regarding ICU core performance measures.
The SCCM was the original founder of Project IMPACT and remains a 50% shareholder in Project IMPACT CCM, Inc. (PICCM).
