Chief of Staff
As the executive vice president and chief of staff, Jeff Townsend steers the strategic direction of the company. He plays a key role in solution innovation, financial planning and key market initiatives including population health management.
Since joining Cerner in 1985 as a programmer analyst, Jeff has held numerous leadership positions. His experience includes serving as chief engineering officer, project manager for strategic systems and product line executive for management systems.
Jeff has led several initiatives that extend beyond the electronic health record (EHR), including consumer, employer, population health, research and provider networks solutions and offerings.
In 2013, he assumed responsibility for Cerner’s relationship with Intermountain Healthcare (IMH) to drive health care innovation. He is working with IMH to create and deliver a next generation intelligent clinical information system.
Jeff has been instrumental in shaping Cerner’s software as one of the original architects of the Cerner Millennium® platform. He led the creation of the institute alignment models, which are joint ventures between Cerner and our clients to rapidly advance and deploy health care technology.
Jeff is a graduate of Iowa State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science.
