John C. Danforth was a member of Cerner’s Board of Directors from 1996 - 2017. He took a brief leave from 2004-2005 to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. He was reappointed in February 2005 and served continuously until his retirement in May 2017, when he was named Director Emeritus.
Danforth represented the State of Missouri in the U.S. Senate for 18 years until 1995, and served as a director of The Dow Chemical Company and MetLife, Inc. until June 2004. He is currently a partner with the law firm Dowd Bennett LLP. Prior to joining this firm in June 2015, Danforth was a partner at the law firm of Bryan Cave LLP until September 2014. Danforth currently serves on the board of directors of the Commission on Presidential Debates and was a director of Greenhill & Co., Inc. from February 2005 until March 2014.
Danforth has received the St. Louis Award, the Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award and the St. Louis Man of the Year Award, among many others. He is ordained to the clergy of the Episcopal Church. Danforth received his secondary education at St. Louis County Day School and graduated with honors from Princeton University. He then received a bachelor of divinity degree from Yale divinity School and a bachelor of laws degree from Yale Law School. Before seeking public office, he practiced law in New York City and St. Louis.
