Health care is rapidly evolving as the industry shifts from fee-for-service to value based care. In this episode of The Cerner Podcast, Dr. Doug Fridsma, president and chief executive officer of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), discusses the future of health care.

Previously, Dr. Fridsma served as the director for the office of science and technology, and the chief science officer for the ONC.

The AMIA is a membership society representing five thousand professional and student informaticians and their interests and activities in academe, industry, government and nonprofit organizations.

In this episode, Dr. Fridsma answers the following questions:

You have shared in your presentations what you call 32 billion dollars-worth of advice. What does that look like as we consider our learnings from Meaningful Use?
  • What is the financial impact of Meaningful Use to date? And who is impacted the most?
  • For the future of health care to be successful, what issues needs to be addressed?
  • What is AMIA's view on clinical informatics as a field and in the future? And what does a Certification in Informatics for CMIOs achieve?
