The Västra Götaland region in Sweden and its municipalities have taken a major step towards increased collaboration in healthcare with Cerner. All 49 municipalities have decided to join the investment in the future healthcare information environment, meaning easier collaboration between different healthcare providers – which will greatly benefit the population.
“It is a major and important step for information to be linked between different healthcare providers at different levels in order for the information to follow the citizen. The fact that the municipalities join the region's healthcare system means that coherent care chains are created where the patient's data is transmitted seamlessly between the region and the municipalities. The right information should be available at the right time, in the right place and for the right person. This is the first time this type of coherent information chain has been created in Sweden, and we are proud to be part of the development into an even more citizen-centred focus in Swedish healthcare”, says Carolina Wallenius, general manager of Cerner Sverige.
Cooperation is crucial
The goal of the future healthcare information environment (FVM), which has the Cerner Millennium® patient record system at its heart, is to make healthcare easier and more accessible to the population. Each of the region's 1.7 million inhabitants will have a single patient record where all medical history can be found, whilst healthcare staff gets improved work processes and a more efficient working climate. The municipalities of Västra Götaland have been involved from the start, through the cooperation organisation VästKom. FVM is an important tool for simplifying cooperation between different actors and finding new ways of working, meaning citizens should not have to worry about who is providing care or contributing to preventive health work.
VGR is responsible for ensuring that the population in Västra Götaland receive the healthcare they need. Healthcare is the most comprehensive business in the Västra Götaland region, with around 48,000 employees and about 90% of the total budget going towards various forms of healthcare.
